Project Announcements: Plastic Tubing Industries – celebrated expansion and first rail car to arrive. Oldcastle Materials announced in March 2008 plans to locate facility north of Camak. Ribbon Cuttings from Jan 2008 – date: The Café at the Station, Point of Need, Stop & Go Convenient Store, and Plastic Tubing expansion. Conducted meetings with and marketed industrial sites to several company prospects throughout the year with the Development Authority of Warren County and the Warrenton Downtown Development Authority. Reimbursed six façade grants in 2008 and awarded four grants to be used during 2009 to local businesses through Hometown Warrenton, Inc. Organized with small businesses and conducted Merchant Meetings on “Financing Opportunities”, “Customer Service”, and “How to start a business in Warren County” and pulled resources to help small businesses that need outside assistance. Coordinated several meetings with the SBDC in Warren County. Began E-news to inform business of information to improve their bottom line. Began Events on the Horizon to keep all aware of activities in the community. Conducted Communities of Opportunity Town Hall meetings to discuss community issues. Met with Governor and received $5000 implementation grant. Relocation and Renovation of East Warrenton Depot so it can become the new Chamber/DA/DDA/BHT office, Welcome Center, and Museum. Scheduled to complete the Historic Tree Project along Main Street and the Court House grounds, as well as, the streetscape in front of the Depot and the Knox Theater. Better Hometown Program designated National Main Street Accredited Program. Raised over $8000 for the Warren County Early-Read Program. Now serving 140 children in Warren County for one year. Thanks especially to Jefferson Energy for receiving the round up grant for over $7000. Also provided yellow registration boxes around town to increase the number of children being signed up for the program – thanks to Tom Brady. Coordinated with Purchasing Alliance Solutions, Joesbury Insurance Company, and now Habersham Bank, along with various local insurance companies to offer special discounts on insurance premiums to Chamber business members. Applied for and received approximately $1200 from the Grassroots Art Alliance for art activities in Warren County, including Art on Main, Concerts in the Park, and the Area Children’s Theater.
