Back Roads and Bikes Charity Ride
Poker Run
August 5th, 2006

Hometown Warrenton, Inc. hosted its first annual
Back Roads and Bikes Charity Ride poker run on Saturday, August 5th,
beginning from the Square in downtown Warrenton. The police escorted
ride of about 70 miles covered areas Warren County and included
stops at Briar Rose (formerly Come Away Plantation), Ogeechee River
Mill, Kenny Norris BBQ and the Warren County Veterans Club.
The 45 motorcycles came from far and near – some
as far north as Cumming, GA, and as far south as Florida. Many
Warren County riders help plan the event, lay out the route, and
coordinate the ride, including Russ Gray, Tony Langham, Tony Prince,
Wayne Fulbright, Freddie Overstreet, Dodge Johnson, and Jimmy
Hawkins. Other volunteers included Gloria Gray, Betty Ruth Dye,
Billie Duckworth, Martha Jane Wilhoit, Tina Hutcheson, Brittney
Hutcheson, Larry Rachels, Arty Thrift, Pam Langford, Jenny Thaxton,
Denise Coard, Chuck Cumber, and Edlyn Elliott.

Special thanks go to Henry Parham and
the Warren County Veterans Club for hosting the delicious
steak dinner after the ride. The winners of the poker hands
were announced, and the winner of the best hand was Ronnie
Thomaston of Warrenton. The winner of the worst hand donated
the proceeds back to charity. |

 Proceeds from the event will go to the
Children’s Cancer Research Center in memory of Wayne Malick, a biker
who was killed in an accident in a nearby community. Proceeds will
also go to Hometown Warrenton, Inc., a charitable organization which
supports all types of community events, as well as the local
mentoring program and early read program for children in the
community. |
