Impresario Cindy Rivers,
with her cast and crew, outdid themselves
Friday night, October 20th, at the "Evening of Baroque" concert in
the cultural center. It was a thrilling evening on many levels for
Warren County.
Concertgoers were welcomed to the center by
the string duet of Sue Tomlin and Barbara Altman from
Milledgeville, and pianist Robert Corbitt from Thomson, who played pieces from the period as
the audience members found their
reserved seating. The hall was prettily decorated with the help of
local merchants Rod Bankston and Walter Phillips of
Warrenton
Antiques, and Robin Johnson of Robin's Nest.
Mrs. Rivers was not only the organizer of the event, but also
conducted the musicians and the choral group comprising The Chorus
and the Milledgeville Singers Guild, and refreshed the audience's
memory on topics and composers of the Baroque period. Rivers also
leads the
Warren County Community Chorus. Sterling solo performances were
delivered by Warrenton resident
Sandra Crawford, Will Humphrey
of Milledgeville, and Mrs.
Rivers.
The audience enjoyed a fine sampling of choral and instrumental
pieces by period composers, and were even invited to sing along on
two popular hymns which had their origins in the Baroque period.

All attendees were invited to a reception following the concert,
where they could discuss local events and music with the performers
and friends while sampling a fine selection of hand-made delicacies.
Many thanks from the community to Mrs. Rivers, the performers, the
sponsors, and all who participated to support this wonderful first
event of the series.
Sponsor support for this event was provided by
Sandra Crawford Voice
Studio, Fulghum-Carr Drug Co., and Palmer & Louise Hadden.
