Hometown Christmas on December 4th

Join us for our 7th Annual Hometown Christmas on December 4th from 3:00-9:00pm in downtown Warrenton, Georgia. Step back in time and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Christmas as they did many years ago. The following times listed display what will be going on:

  • 3:00pm: Many of the downtown specialty shops, such as The Button Box, The Main Design, The WIZ, Robin’s Nest, Fulghum-Carr Drug Co., The Store and Warrenton Antiques will begin their Christmas Sales, and at 6:00pm, they will start their Open Houses. Some, if not all, will be serving up goodies along with Christmas cheer!
  • 5:00pm: The Warrenton Garden Club will present the annual Tree-Lighting Service in front of our historic courthouse. Musical guests and the reading of the names of loved ones who are being honored or memorialized will highlight the service. Immediately following the service, the Garden Club will be serving hot grits, with or without cheese, and drinks in the Mason’s Building, across the street from the courthouse.
  • Santa in Warrenton6:00pm: Santa will arrive by carriage west on Main Street, turn south onto West Gibson, turn west onto Court Square, turn north onto South Norwood Street, then head back up Main Street to stop at his workshop between The Station and The Button Box. He will be greeting children and be available for pictures from 6:00-8:00pm. A photographer will be on hand for those without cameras.
  • 6:15pm-6:35pm & 7:30pm-7:50pm: A presentation, “History of Surveying in Georgia”, will be presented by Scott Brown at the Georgia Museum of Surveying and Mapping (The Bonner Building, next to First Citizens Bank) on Main Street. He has arranged to do two presentations, making it easier for you to plan your evening and see everything. For more information on the museum and the program, please call Scott at 706.465.9919.
  • 6:30pm: The Money Board drawing will be held. The location will be determined at a later date. To purchase a ticket, visit Fulghum-Carr Drug Co., The Store, The Wiz or call the Chamber office at 706.465.9604. Tickets are $10 each.
  • The rules are:
    1. 100 tickets available for sale, and all tickets will be sold before the drawing on 12/4/08.
    2. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO WIN!
    3. All numbers will be drawn with winners as follows: 10th number drawn wins $15; 25th number drawn wins $35; 50th number drawn wins $50; 75th number drawn wins $100; 100th number drawn wins $300.
    4. Money board will be displayed and drawing held during Hometown Christmas at 6:30pm….location TBA.
    5. Winners will need to claim their prizes at specified business locations either during Hometown Christmas or within two weeks of the drawing (12/28/08). Unclaimed prizes will be used as proceeds towards the Skyline Lighting Project with the other $500 collected from the sales of the tickets.

  • 7:00pm: The Live Nativity will take place on the grounds of the First United Methodist Church. Various church groups will participate in this portion of Hometown Christmas, placing Jesus Christ in the forefront of the celebration. If you or your church group would like to participate, please call Cindy Rivers at 706.465.9604. The group can be five or more children, adults or a combination of both. Costumes are available to put on over street clothes; plus, a live donkey and a goat are planned to be part of the scene!
  • cozy cauldronThroughout the Evening: Cauldrons will be set up along Main Street to roast marshmallows, and Carriage rideshorse-drawn carriage rides and hayrides tour visitors through the residential winter wonderland of illuminated streets to view the holiday-decorated homes. The downtown restaurants will be decked out with candlelight dinners for all of the busy shoppers. Going from shop to shop, you will surely enjoy the music permeating the streets. Traditional artisans will be showing off their handmade wares and demonstrating their craft, while photo opportunities abound in the charming downtown area. Remember to visit the Elves' Bakery at the Enterprise Building (the old hardware store) for the best treats around. Also, please decorate your home for Christmas by 12/3/08. The judges will be travelling through Warrenton neighborhoods to award the best-decorated for the Holiday Home awards!
