NEXT BIG EVENT

FIRST SATURDAY, September 5th , 2009, Come to Warrenton for “Kid’s Day” on First Saturday, September 5th, 10am-2pm . Emergency vehicles will be on display for kids to explore from 10am-12pm in the TOUCH-A-TRUCK parking lot area in front of the Knox Theatre. Free balloons and goodie bags will be given out at the court house while supplies last, and kids can come make a craft between 10am and 11am. A premiere face painter, Ayasia Hampton, will be onsite from 10am-1pm in front of the court house, and a Treasure Hunt is planned to begin at noon. First Saturday also welcomes those who would like to sell their wares along Main Street. Everything from antiques or attic sales to food or furniture sales may reserve a space at no charge by calling 706-465-9604.

TUESDAY, September 8th, 10am-8pm at The Warren County Public Library on Warren Street: Scavenger Hunt at the Library. Pick up your questionnaire at the library’s Main Desk and fill out the answers. Turn the questionnaire in any time on Tuesday, Sept. 8th between 10am and 8pm and collect your prize. There are questionnaires for both ADULTS and CHILDREN, so everyone can participate! Sponsored by The Warren Co. Library and Sandersville Tech Adult Education Dept. at the Learning Center, Warrenton.

MONDAY, September 14th, Warren Co. High School auditorium. ACT IV (Area Children’s Theatre) try outs for their November 9th production, Comedy Through the Ages: From Jesters to Stand Ups. Children ages 8 and up are welcome to try out. Limited slots open for cast and crew. Call Cindy Rivers at 706.465.9604 for more information.

LOOKING AHEAD:

FIRST SATURDAY, October 3rd, 10am-4pm, in downtown Warrenton, GA for our 3rd Annual FIDDLES & VITTLES, a Food & Music Fest. Hometown Warrenton, Inc. presents this First Saturday event as a kick-off to the fall season. Nancy Creek(www.gigmasters.com/liveband/NancyCreek) is scheduled to play from 10am-1pm. Harmon Koeltz of Harm’s Way (www.myspace.com/harmonandfriends), Pat Walsh (www.patwalshmusic.com) , and Chris Baggett (www.myspace.com/christianbaggett) are scheduled to play on the court house steps from 1:00- 4:00pm. So, bring a lawn chair or blanket and your dancing shoes. The promenade will be left open for dancin'!

A variety of food vendors will be set up on the square selling all kinds of good foods and treats. So, bring your appetite and plan to stay for lunch. There will also be spaces provided between Warrenton Finance and The Warrenton Clipper office on West Gibson for a Farmer’s Market. Local produce vendors are encouraged to set up for $8.00 for the day.

The Helping Hands Food Pantry will also be accepting food donations on the square. Please, bring canned and dry foods of the everyday type. There will be a brand new small kitchen appliance to be raffled off to a winning participant. Donors to the food pantry receive one ticket per two items donated. The pantry serves the needy of Warren County. You do not have to be present to win the blender! In case of rain, this outdoor event will be moved to the Cultural Center.

Speaking of the Cultural Center, we have a real treat to continue the festivities into the night. A Fiddlin’ Music Supper is scheduled for 6:00pm at the Cultural Center. The featured music group is Curley Maple from Athens, GA. It is a “Taste of Warrenton” Covered Dish Supper. Bring your favorite dishes: casseroles, veggies, breads, desserts, etc…to share with everyone. Bring your recipe to be included in the “Taste of Warrenton” Cookbook! Iced tea and water will be provided by Hometown Warrenton, Inc. TICKETS: $5.00 each Kids 12 and under are $1.

SPORTSMAN’S FESTIVAL

Please, join us November 14, 9am-3pm, in downtown Warrenton, GA for our 16th Annual Sportsman's Festival. It is gearing up to be bigger than last year and fun for the entire family!

Come meet the legendary OKEFENOKEE JOE, The Snake Educator and “Swampwise” Star, who will be onsite, near the Welcome Booth, all day long. He'll be performing his “Earth Day Every Day” shows at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, and he will also be available for autographs and photos.

The Car Cruise-In will fill Courthouse Square during the entire festival, and door prizes will be given away to participants there. To reserve a spot for your classic car, please call Andrew Coard at 706.465.2198.

The Welcome Booth and stage are planned to be set up near the tennis courts. At the booth, raffle tickets and t-shirts will be on sale. This year's gun, donated by the Warren Co. Chamber of Commerce and on display at Wheeler's True Value Hardware, is a Marlin XL7C, 270 Caliber Realtree Camo. Tickets are set to be on sale beginning September 1st and may be purchased for $1 each OR 6 for $5 at Wheeler's, Miss Jane's, the Chamber office or from Chamber/BHT board members. The winner of the gun must be 18 years old or older, and you do not have to be present to win when the raffle is drawn at 2:15 pm. The 50/50 raffle tickets may also be purchased for $1 each at the above locations. The winner of the 50/50 raffle must be present at the festival at 2:15 pm to win. T-shirts will be on sale for $10 and $15 at the Welcome Booth.

Commercial vendors will be set up along South Norwood Street. If you are interested in renting a booth space, please call 706.465.9604 or get your application here. We are especially seeking hunting and/or fishing vendors, but other vendors will be considered. Food vendors will be set up on Edward Ricketson, Jr Street, and the Kid's Carnival will be set up in City Park.

WTHO's Steve Ferguson will be broadcasting live from the festival from 8-10am as the vendors set up, and the festival gets underway. We are seeking live entertainers to perform on the Depot stage throughout the festival day. Please, call 706.465.9604 to reserve a time slot for your choir, band or other brand of entertainment.

At 2:30pm, the Turkey Shoot and Big Buck Contest, sponsored by Old Anderson Plantation, will take place at The Country Club on East Warrenton Road. Bring your buck, killed on November 14th, 2009, to The Country Club on East Warrenton Road to be scored. Call George Langford at 706-840-3174 for details. Prize will be awarded to the deer that scores the highest. Turkey Shoot for all ages starting at 2:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded on each shoot.

From 9am-noon, a free Health Fair will be held in City Hall. Tri-County Family Medical Center will be sponsoring this free event. Along with blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar checks, there will be free informational packets available. Please, plan to attend while you are at the festival.
