Knox Theater Lighting Ceremony
Monday evening, August 31, 2009, 7:30 PM
In front of the Historic Knox Theater Come to downtown Warrenton on Monday, August 31st at 7:30.  The newly renovated façade of the Historic Knox Theater will be “shown”.  The first phase of the renovation is complete, and we want to celebrate the first step to having this nostalgic piece of history back in operation again.  The architectural plans for the theater will be unveiled for all to see.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the short ceremony before the “lights come on”!!

High Lonesome Band performs at the Warren County Georgia Cultural Center

THURSDAY, August 20th, 6-8pm: Concert in the Park, (see poster) featuring the High Lonesome Band from Gibson, GA. You can visit them on their website: www.highlonesomeband.net. They often play The Bistro in Louisville, GA. Their repertoire is mostly classic rock, southern rock and some pop. Come join us in City Park during the supper hours. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy some great music while you eat! Bring your supper and dine to music - feel free to set up a table for a romantic dinner! It’s fun for the entire family.

Based on the weather, the concert may be held in the cultural center at
South Gibson and Church streets. A decision will be made by 5 o'clock
and a sign will be posted at City Park.

This is a Hometown Warrenton, Inc. event and Grassroots Arts Program. FRIDAY & SATURDAY, May 8th & 9th, 2009: Romeo & Juliet will be performed at Warren County High School Auditorium at 6:30 each evening by the Area Children’s Theatre. This is our third season and involves our biggest cast yet. We have over twenty young people in the cast and crew from Thomson, Warrenton and Sharon; those who are public schooled, private schooled and home schooled….a wonderful jacquard pattern perfect for Shakespeare. Saturday, January 3, 2009:  2nd Annual Chili Cookoff will be held in the Mason’s Building
Do you have what it takes to make the best bowl of chili in Warren County? Let’s find out! The recipe is simple…..take one cook, all the ingredients needed, a big pot to hold the required one gallon* of prepared chili, and don’t forget a big spoon or ladle. This is not your ordinary cookoff. You are allowed to cook your chili at home and bring it to the Mason’s Building on FIRST SATURDAY, January 3rd  between 10:30 and 11:15 AM. Please bring your entry in a crock pot and bring an extension cord . We ask that you not put your name on anything you bring in because the judges are not supposed to know whose is whose. That would not be fair. But wait! There’s more….soups and stews also qualify. The same rules apply for soups and stews that apply for chili….refer to recipe above.
*Each competitor must bring at least one gallon because the entries will be sold around noon, and the proceeds will be going to Relay for Life in Warren County.

Not a cook? But you love to eat good chili, soup and/or stew???? Well, beginning around noon at the Mason’s Building on First Saturday, January 3rd  , you will be able to dive into a bowl! Adult tickets are $3/bowl, and children 10 and under are $2/bowl, or $10 for all you can eat. This includes cornbread and/or crackers. Desserts are extra. All proceeds go to Relay for Life in Warren County.

Thursday, December 18th 2008: The Chorus presents “An Early American Christmas” at 7:00pm at the newly renovated  Rock Mills Methodist Church, Hamburg State Park Road, Jewell, GA. Fiddles & Vittles Music & Food Fest October 4, 2008, 10am-2pm, in downtown Warrenton, GA for our 2nd Annual Fiddles & Vittles, a Food & Music Fest. Hometown Warrenton, Inc. presents this First Saturday event as a kick-off to the fall season.
    TDC (Tim Price, Doug Johnson, Carrol Morris) will be pickin' and singin' on the courthouse steps. So, bring a lawn chair or blanket and your dancing shoes. The promenade will be left open for dancin'! A variety of food vendors will be set up on the square selling all kinds of good foods and treats. So, bring your appetite and plan to stay for lunch.
    The Helping Hands Food Pantry will also be accepting food donations on the square. Please, bring canned and dry foods of the everyday type. There will be a brand new Hamilton Beach blender raffled off to a winning participant. Donors to the food pantry receive one ticket per two items donated. The pantry serves the needy of Warren County. You do not have to be present to win the blender!
    In case of rain, this outdoor event will be canceled, BUT donations to the pantry and the raffle will still be held at FUMC, 421 Main Street, Warrenton from 10am-2pm. Thursday, August 21st 2008 - Concert in the Park, sponsored by Hometown Warrenton, Inc., presents the Fort Gordon Signal Corps Band. It’s actually two bands in one….25 performers in all! Their concert band and their stage band. More information on their music will be available very soon. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. COOL SHAVINGS will be onsite selling hotdogs, cool drinks and other treats. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Cultural Center on the corner of South Gibson and Church streets. This is a free concert and open to the public.

1st Saturday September 6th 2008 - Kid’s Day! We’ll have Touch-a-Truck, treats for the kids, safety information and so much more….Details to come! The fun will begin at 10am and go till noon. Puppet Show at 11:00am at the courthouse performed by The Master’s Puppets.

 Sidewalk and yard sales are welcome to set up and sell their wares.  Come and sell your food, furniture, crafts, consignment, and other treasurers. Space is available at no charge.  Please call 706-465-9604 to reserve your space - first come, first served.

    Photo from 2007 Patriotic Day parade1st Saturday July 5th 2008 - Patriotic Day will be observed in Warrenton. Festivities will include a parade, bring-your-own picnic, pie bake-off, watermelon-eating contest and games.

    Dress up your classic car, golf cart, or bicycle in patriotic colors and parade them from Warren Street, down Main Street, and then to City Park at 10:00am. At the park, the bake-off and watermelon-eating contest will be held, followed by a picnic and games, such as pitching horseshoes, frisbee-throwing, checkers, or tennis.

    Elvis!Saturday, June 21st, 2008 - Elvis! - PHOTOS - 8 p.m. - midnight , Dance & Show, will be presented by the Warren County Historical Society at the Warren County Cultural Center on South Gibson Street. Mark Phillips of Atlanta, GA will be Elvis Presley for the evening, entertaining with Elvis' hits. Tickets are $12. A table for 10 may be purchased for $100, a savings of $20! Soft drinks and bottled water will be sold at the dance, and you may bring your own refreshments. Proceeds will be added to the restroom restoration fund.

    Through Saturday, June 21, 2008 - Art Exhibit Warren County Public Library on Warren Street. The Morris Museum of Art is sponsoring this travelling exhibit, and our library will host it for this week only! Please, drop by the library and see this amazing paneled exhibit. We want to thank the Morris and Beth Bean for bringing these works to Warren County.

    Thursday, June 19th, 2008 - Concert in the Park, 6:30-8:00pm, City Park on South Norwood Street. The New Apostles will be performing outstanding gospel music. The group is made up of Lamar Nix, Paul Jackson and Jay Beeland. These guys always draw a crowd and do a wonderful job of bringing a hopeful message, harmonized through song. The Concert in the Park usually begins at 6:00pm, but due to a local funeral, this particular concert will begin around 6:30pm. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Cultural Center on South Gibson Street. Cool Shavings (www.coolshavings.com) will be set up selling snow cones and hotdogs. So, bring a lawn chair, order up some supper and relax with The New Apostles. This is a family-friendly, Hometown Warrenton, Inc. event.     Mondays, beginning September 10, 2007 @ 4:00-5:30pm at the WCHS auditorium: Area Children's Theatre (ACT II/2007) will begin rehearsals for a mystery to be presented sometime in November. The child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on September 10 in order to register for the session.

    October 6, 2007 @ 10am-2pm on Courthouse Square: Fiddles & Vittles - The TDC Band will be entertaining us with country and bluegrass music while food vendors will be set up along the square. Bake sales, preserves, ciders, honeys, syrups, ribs, etc.....all kinds of eats! Enjoy lunch or brunch downtown for the First Saturday in October in our festive atmosphere. If you, your church group, civic organization or club would like to set up to sell food items, please call me at 706.465.9604 to reserve your spot. First Come, First Served. Free setup, but we won't turn away donations to pay for the band. We do not provide electricity or water, so please bring a generator if you need "juice".
        A Hands on Georgia project will be going on the same day.....a food drive to fill our local food pantry. Bring canned and dry food to the festival and volunteers will get it to the pantry and to needy families. Please avoid bringing foods high in sodium, sugar and/or fat and be sure to look at expiration dates. A raffle will be held....prize yet to be determined, but ticket price will be two cans/boxes of food or $1.00 with proceeds going to the "We Care Fund" at FUMC to go to the needy.

  • October 2, 2007 @ 7:30pm at Warren County High School (tentative location) auditorium: The Chorus, along with Milledgeville Singers Guild and the Magellan String Quartet, will be presenting its second concert in the series, An Evening of Classic: Music from 1750-1850. Sandra Crawford formerly of the Atlanta Opera Chorus will be a featured soloist. Reserved seat tickets will be available September 14th-concert date for donations. There will be three sections of tickets; $10 VIP (limit 20 seats), $5 Patron (limit 200 seats) and Free (limit 299). Dress is semiformal. Reception to follow in the lobby.   • September 20, 2007 @ 6-8:00pm in City Park: Concert in the Park this is the last one for the year. Cindy Rivers and her brother, Kevin Little, will be entertaining with Grammy Award-winning and popular songs over the past 5 decades, or so. The concert will be in the Cultural Center if it's raining or well above 95 degrees.

  • Tuesday, September 11, 2007 @ 7:00pm at the Cultural Center: "Celebration of Service and Prayer for Peace" ceremony honoring our local veterans, emergency personnel and active duty. We will also have local ministers, choirs and soloists relaying a message of peace through music, meditation and prayer. The public is invited to attend this service.

  • August 4th 2007: Back Roads and Bikes Charity Poker Run

  • August 16th 2007: Music - The Lamb Family from Mitchell, GA...Bluegrass at its finest from such young talent.

  • August 21 2007: Merchant's Meeting - "Intro to E-Business" 5:30 pm Lafayette Room above Warrenton Antiques in Warrenton. There will be an e-business seminar offered this fall, and this is an introduction to that seminar to let you know what it will be about. If you want a web page for your business or if you want to sell you products online - you can do whatever level you wish. Greg Lauderman from GA Tech will come take us through that process and help you decide if you would like to take part in the E-Business seminars in the fall offered in Warrenton.
