​Hometown Warrenton, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the unique charm, history, and vitality of downtown Warrenton, Georgia. As an accredited Main Street program, on the National and State level, we are committed to revitalizing our community’s core through strategic planning, economic development, and historical preservation.
Why? Because Main Street is for Everyone! At the heart of every vibrant community is a space where people from all walks of life can come together, and for Warrenton, that place is Main Street. Our downtown isn't just a collection of buildings or businesses—it's the cultural and social hub where people connect, celebrate, and build the future together.

Main Street is a Movement
The Main Street program began in the 1970s as a way to revitalize downtown districts. It focuses on preserving the unique character of communities while promoting economic growth. Warrenton’s Main Street is accredited and dedicated to historical preservation, fostering vibrant downtown life.
A Proven Strategy for Success
Organization: Building strong partnerships and engaging the community. Design: Enhancing the visual appeal of the downtown. Promotion: Marketing the downtown’s unique assets. Economic Vitality: Strengthening the local economy through business retention and development.

Main Street strengthens the heart of communities. It supports local businesses, creates jobs, and attracts visitors. Through collaborative efforts, Main Street preserves history while ensuring a bright future for downtown Warrenton.

The Data

Over the past five years, Hometown Warrenton has made significant strides in revitalizing the downtown area. Through public improvement projects, business expansion, community events, and volunteer efforts, we’ve continued to foster economic growth, preserve our town’s historical character, and create a vibrant space for residents and visitors alike.
Key Achievements (2019-2023):
Promotional Events & Festivals
Warrenton’s downtown has hosted 173 events, attracting thousands of participants and enhancing the visibility of local businesses and culture.
Total Attendance at Events: 27,644 attendees
Volunteer Engagement
Volunteers have been crucial in our efforts, contributing over 6,975 hours of their time to support various initiatives and community events.
New Business Growth
Over the last five years, 19 new businesses have opened or expanded in downtown Warrenton, adding diversity and economic vitality to the area.
Job Creation
The downtown revitalization efforts have resulted in a net gain of 53 new jobs during this period.
Building Improvements & Housing Development
A total of 25 building rehabilitation projects were completed, representing investments in preserving and enhancing Warrenton’s historical buildings. Additionally, 5 new housing units have been added, contributing to the growth of downtown as a livable space.
Public Improvement Projects
Warrenton saw 16 major public improvement projects over the past five years, with a total investment of over $2,772,000 in public and private funds for infrastructure, beautification, and modernization.
Cumulative Financial Impact (2019-2023)
 Total Private and Public Investment: $4,411,508 
This investment reflects the combined efforts of the local government, businesses, and community members to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of downtown Warrenton.

From July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, Warrenton experienced substantial growth in visitor engagement, as outlined in the visitor overview report. Over this period, Warrenton saw 756.5k visitors with a growth of 13.3%, with notable engagement in local businesses and events. The data highlights increasing foot traffic and participation in events, showcasing Warrenton’s appeal as a cultural and economic hub. These trends demonstrate the success of Warrenton's downtown revitalization and community development initiatives, with continued efforts to attract both residents and visitors, leading to higher visitor spending and local economic growth.

​Hometown Warrenton’s overarching goal is to strengthen the entire community by fostering growth and creating opportunities for everyone. This involves improving local infrastructure, supporting businesses, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Downtown Revitalization​
​At the heart of Warrenton is its downtown, which serves as the social and economic center of the community. Revitalizing downtown means making it more attractive, vibrant, and functional by investing in buildings, encouraging business development, and creating a space where people want to gather, shop, and enjoy themselves.

Historic Preservation:​
​Warrenton has a rich history that’s reflected in its architecture, landmarks, and stories. Preserving these historic assets ensures that future generations can appreciate and connect with the town’s heritage. By protecting these treasures, Hometown Warrenton helps maintain the town’s character while blending the old with the new.

Tourism:​
​By promoting the attractions, events, and history of downtown Warrenton, Hometown Warrenton helps draw visitors to the area. This not only supports businesses but also strengthens the economy, as tourism brings in revenue and increases the visibility.

Education:​
​​Education is key to engaging the community and fostering a sense of pride in Warrenton. Through educational programs, outreach, and partnerships, Hometown Warrenton informs residents and visitors about the value of historic preservation, downtown revitalization, and local heritage, empowering them to contribute to the town’s ongoing development.
Our Vision
Our vision is to help create a unique and vital downtown that enriches the business community, embraces history, the arts, and promotes events to instill a 'sense of place' in our community. 
Our collective vision statement was drafted with the assistance of 204 survey responses from local residents and visitors. They're collective efforts created the vision for our downtown.
The Final Vision
Our vision for downtown Warrenton is to foster a vibrant, thriving community that seamlessly blends its historic charm with modern amenities. We envision a bustling downtown filled with diverse businesses, including unique shops, welcoming cafes, and a variety of restaurants offering extended hours to accommodate families and visitors alike.

Downtown Warrenton will be a hub of activity, with regular community events, festivals, and entertainment options such as a fully operational movie theater, outdoor concerts, and family-friendly activities that attract both residents and tourists. The area will feature clean, well-maintained streets, beautiful green spaces, and safe, inviting public areas for socializing and recreation.

By encouraging growth and development, supporting local businesses, and maintaining the small-town feel that defines Warrenton, we aim to create a lively, welcoming environment where people of all ages can enjoy a high quality of life. This includes leveraging economic development initiatives, enhancing community engagement, and preserving the unique character of our historic downtown.

The Goals

Current Projects
​
Hometown Warrenton, Inc. and its partners are actively engaged in several projects aimed at enhancing the downtown area and improving community life. These efforts focus on infrastructure upgrades, historic preservation, and event enhancements, all designed to promote Warrenton’s growth and revitalization. Some of the key current projects include:
  • Façade Grant Program (Ongoing): This long-running partnership between the Warrenton Downtown Development Authority (WDDA) and Hometown Warrenton, Inc. helps restore and improve the facades of downtown buildings. Over $115,000 has been invested since 2002 to enhance the visual appeal of the business district.
  • Peace Pole Project (2023): Installed artistic peace poles downtown to promote community unity and peace, continuing Warrenton's commitment to public art.
  • MLK Park Upgrade (In Progress): A $789,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant is being utilized to upgrade MLK Park, enhancing its recreational facilities for residents and visitors.
  • Comcast Internet Expansion (2022): A major $190,000 broadband expansion project has improved high-speed internet access across Warrenton, positioning the city for future growth and digital connectivity.
  • Downtown Parking Review (2025): The WDDA is working with the City of Warrenton to assess and improve parking in the downtown area, ensuring easy access for visitors and businesses alike.
  • Historic Preservation Efforts: Ongoing initiatives include the renovation of key buildings like the Knox Theatre, the Cultural Center, and the development of public art projects such as murals and audio boxes that highlight the area’s rich history.
Future Initiatives

Hometown Warrenton, Inc. and its partners are committed to creating a bright future for the downtown area by focusing on strategic growth, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement. These future initiatives will continue to build on the success of past and current efforts, aiming to create a vibrant and sustainable downtown for generations to come:
  • Rural Zone Designation (2024): Hometown Warrenton, Inc. is applying for a Rural Zone designation, which will provide incentives for business recruitment and development, particularly in areas with high vacancy rates.
  • Sidewalk and Crosswalk Improvement Plan (2026): The City of Warrenton and the WDDA will collaborate on creating a comprehensive sidewalk and crosswalk improvement plan to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility downtown.
  • New Business Recruitment Strategy (2025): A targeted recruitment strategy will focus on attracting businesses that complement existing offerings, such as cafes, specialty retail stores, and entertainment venues, to fill gaps in the local market.
  • Revitalization of Blighted Buildings (2025-2026): Through grant funding and redevelopment incentives, the WDDA and Hometown Warrenton will focus on purchasing and restoring vacant and deteriorating downtown buildings to breathe new life into the area.
  • Community Mural Project (2027): A second community-driven mural will be developed to foster local pride and enhance the cultural landscape of downtown Warrenton.
  • Farmers Market & Public Wi-Fi (2025-2027): Plans are underway to establish a dedicated farmers market area downtown, along with the creation of a public Wi-Fi zone to support local businesses and enhance visitor experience.
  • Splash Pad Installation (2027): A family-friendly splash pad is planned for downtown Warrenton, providing a new recreational attraction for residents and visitors during the warmer months.
