This Black History Month, we honor Dr. Ken Blair, a leader, educator, and community activist whose influence reaches far beyond the classroom. As the inaugural Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives at Wesleyan College, Dr. Blair works tirelessly to inspire and uplift first-generation and low-income minority youth, encouraging them to pursue leadership roles and break barriers. A proud native of Warrenton, GA, and now a resident of Macon, GA, Dr. Blair has made a lasting impact on both communities. His commitment to service is evident through his roles on various civic boards, including the Macon Transit Authority and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Mercer University African American Alumni Network and was honored with several prestigious awards, including the 2023 Georgia Trend Magazine's 40 Under 40. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Dr. Blair has held leadership roles in multiple organizations, including the Macon-Middle GA NPHC, where he earned the National Pan-Hellenic Council Outstanding Frater Award. His contributions have earned him recognition from Macon-Bibb County, which proclaimed May 25, 2024, as Dr. Ken Blair Appreciation Day. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Blair has worked to honor the legacy of his ancestors. He played a key role in having a local park and street in Warrenton named after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also helped organize peaceful protests in 2020, advocating for justice for African Americans killed by police brutality. In addition, Dr. Blair’s commitment to preserving history is reflected in his initiatives like the First African-American Special Exhibit at the Warren County Museum of Cultural Heritage and his role in hosting the inaugural Juneteenth Festival in his hometown. Dr. Ken Blair’s legacy is one of leadership, activism, and dedication to his community. His work continues to inspire and empower, ensuring that his impact will be felt for generations to come. #BlackHistoryMonth #Leadership #CommunityImpact  Wishing a joyful 107th birthday to Ms. Beatrice Kinsey, Warren County’s oldest living African American!It’s been my honor to share your story!
Ms. Beatrice Kinsey, born on February 10, 1918, to the late Estella Jackson and Willie Martin. Raised in Warren County, Beatrice briefly attended the McDuffie County school system before dedicating much of her youth to assisting with the family farm. Beatrice is the cornerstone of her family. In December of 1938, she married Odell Kinsey, and together they adopted three children. Their family grew over the years, encompassing many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A woman of deep faith and service, Beatrice became an active member of Poplar Head Baptist Church in 1932, where she served faithfully for much of her life. She also joined the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star in 1945. Beatrice’s dedication to her faith was evident in her role as lead missionary at her church, a position she held until her health began to decline. Through her singing and cooking, she touched countless lives, spreading love and compassion to all who knew her. At 107 years old, Beatrice Kinsey stands as a living testament to resilience, service, and unwavering faith.
