Historic Tuesday: Warrenton’s New Deal Post Office
Did you know that Warrenton’s post office wasn’t always in its own building? Before 1939, it was located inside the Courthouse! Thanks to the Public Building Administration, a part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, our town received funding to construct this beautiful brick post office. Built in 1939 with federal Treasury Department funds, this building has served our community for decades and even doubled as a fallout shelter during WWII. The post office originally housed a New Deal mural, which has since been relocated to Augusta. Today, it stands as a testament to Warrenton’s resilience and history, still serving residents just as it did over 80 years ago! Stop by and take a moment to appreciate this piece of our town’s past. Located in the heart of Warrenton Check out this historic gem!
