When Dean Davis moved to Warrenton last year, he discovered the area didn’t have a Jamaican restaurant and decided to open one of his own. Dean and his wife, Santonia, own Dean’s Kitchen next door to the new Warrenton Country Store & Deli. The restaurant, which opened on June 15, serves a variety of Jamaican dishes including oxtails, jerk chicken, and curry goat. “I like to see people enjoying the food and tasting the seasonings,” said Dean, who moved from Jamaica to the U.S. about 20 years ago. “Every week, I add one more dish.” He currently works 14 to 15 hours a day and said he’s working hard now, so he doesn’t have to work so hard later in life. The restaurant currently has no staff. The ones they previously employed weren’t accustomed to the hard work the restaurant requires, the couple said. According to Santonia, many of their ingredients, including vegetables, must be hand-chopped. She works full-time and helps Dean at the restaurant when she can. “He likes to talk to people, and they enjoy it too,” Santonia said. The restaurant is located at 460 B Legion Drive, Warrenton, GA 30828. Photo and Article courtesy of The McDuffie Progress
